UVSC Session Report
April 1, 2019 (Session #221)
(authored by BJ)

Our numbers were back up to 7 this week, as not only did Pat, Marsha,
and Marilyn return, but Don journeyed up from Manchester, too. Ellen
stole the show, though, with her 4-bingo 546 game, a personal best for
her at our club, and 101 points better than her previous high game this
year. She opened with the nice find of FUHRERS, and later added
HARDIEST, ENATION, and REJOICES. Marsha also had a very notable play,
earning a place on our club record sheet when she played two one-point
tiles -- making the word IT along with QI and GIT -- for a whopping 43
points. The play had a point-to-tile-value ratio of 22.5, the second
highest ever recorded at UVSC. It is very unusual to have a ratio of 10
or higher! Iliana ran away with the high play of the night when she
found the beautiful METAZOON (any of a major division of multicellular
animals) for 134. And Don made his visit worthwhile, as he often does,
with a 5-1 showing on the night. Don, Iliana and I wrapped the evening
up with a few rounds of Boggle, which we haven't played for quite a
while. The session included one notably tough vowel-filled board which
had a mere seven TWL words of length five or more. Between the three of
us, though, we managed to find them all, which is actually quite
difficult to do even when there are so few.

Our other bingo words for the week included AGEISTS (an AGEIST is one
who descriminates based on age), DETRAIN (to exit from a train),
SEMINAL, INTERTIE (a timber that binds upright posts), RECHOOSE,
PAUPERS, ADNOUNS (an ADNOUN is an adjective used as a noun), CANTICLE (a
hymn), TOXEMIAS, APHORISM, ENSEWED# (ENSEW# is an old spelling of
ENSUE), TIMEOUT, PLEATING, SLUTTISH, ANGLERS, SUNDERS, CANTLES (a CANTLE
is a piece or portion), COLORIST, GRITTIER, PUDGIER, STIRRUP, LEAVENER,
RENOWNED, SIEGING, LOTUSES, MANATEES, ALLOVER (a patterned fabric),
TRAPPERS, TENSING, TOILETRY, UNGODLY, and NEATENS.

Shown below is the board from Ellen's 4-bingo 546 (TWL) game:
