UVSC Session Report
March 11, 2019 (Session #218)
(authored by BJ)

David was home for spring break this week and joined us for a number of
games, plus a couple of rounds of a fun word game called Wordsy at the
end. Adelie also came along with me to club for a while this week. She
played one game, against me, and is getting noticeably faster at finding
words! Ellen also provided her with many helpful tips. David had an
amazing start to the night, with a four-bingo first game and a total of
over 1100 points in his first two games! Though he didn't have games
like that all night long, he did play simultaneous games twice, and even
played simultaneously in his non-native Collins against both Iliana and
I!

There were two syntactically very similar Collins-y high non-bingos this
week: TOUZE# (to haul) for 74 by BJ and TEAZE# (to tease) also for 74 by
Iliana. They were edged out only by Iliana's QUITE for 75, and her very
similarly played QUEEN trailed just behind them at 70. Iliana also
secured the high bingo with EXTERNAL for 106. One interesting bingo
that was played was COVERTER$, marked with a $ because it is one of the
few words that is valid only in TWL and not Collins. It means "more
covert", as one might guess.

Our other bingos this week included AMORTISE, ANTIRED (opposed to
communism), PATSIES, FLORIST, INHALER, LUCITES (LUCITE is an acrylic
resin), SKATERS, UNSONSIE (unlucky), MUSTERS, SNORTING, ACTUATED (to
ACTUATE is to put into mechanical motion), STEANED# (to STEAN# is to
line with stone), COVERING, INTRUDER, SEARINGS#, PELLETS, BEANIES,
STONIER, RATTANS (RATTAN is a climbing plant commonly used in furniture
making), THYROID, GLORIES, RETAPING, ATONIES (ATONY is muscular
debility), ENTERED, ENROLLER, PRETTILY, STARLIKE, and CREASED.
