UVSC Session Report
June 4, 2018 (Session #183)
(authored by BJ)

This week we were pleased to have yet another first-time attendee, as
David Spargo joined us! Having started playing tournaments just this
year, he hopes to join us regularly before returning to college in the
fall. Melissa also returned to play again, and along with our four
regulars we had a good showing. I was going to talk a bit about a
9-letter bingo I played through disconnected tiles, but I later found
out (the next day) that it was phony. You cannot pluralize COUNTING, it
turns out. Other great words came out today, though, such as Ellen's
GANACHE, Iliana's URTEXTS, David's VISIBLY, and my EUCAINE, all of which
were played as natural (no blanks) 7-letter bingos! For her part,
Margaret scored big points with a naughty (in the non-Scrabble world)
word. We can call such words BLANKETIES after the 2014 TWL update
(BLANKETY: "an unmentionable word"). Melissa focused her efforts on
observing again, studying the cheat sheet, and getting used to the clock
and scorekeeping.

Other words in the bingo menagerie were OUTBREAK, OUTDANCE, OUTLEARN (we
outdid ourselves in OUT words!), DESTAIN, EYELESS, PROFANER, UTILISED,
TRANNIE, ETESIAN, ANSWERS, PASSION, THENAGE, TROLLIES, NEARISH,
OVERLAPS, INSTATE, DEFAMES, PARRING, IODIDES, TITANIC, and BONNIES.
