UVSC Session Report
May 28, 2018 (Session #182)
(authored by BJ)

We tied a club high of eight attendees last week on Memorial Day, and
starting two hours early certainly helped encourage attendance.
Visiting players Mark, Mike, and Tim all had the most wins with four
apiece, though Tim takes the best record honors having played the fewest
games (5). His final game, my only win, ended in unusual fashion. The
board was as clogged as can be, and I had passed my turn a couple of
times without being able to find a play. I found myself with only 1
second on my clock, and assumed Tim would go out, but he couldn't, so he
eventually passed also. As per Scrabble rules, there must be six
consecutive turns with no change in score for a game to end without a
player going out. So Tim and I furiously hit the clock back and forth
three times each, but I wasn't fast enough -- my clock ticked to -1
second on the last hit. Luckily, losing ten points for going overtime
did not cost me the game, but it sure was the weirdest game ending I've
ever experienced. Coincidentally, the first and only other time a game
at our club ended with six non-scoring plays was ... just last week!

We were so happy to have such a well-attended session this week, with
Susan, Mike, Tim, and Mark joining Iliana, Ellen, Margaret and myself.
