UVSC Session Report
February 12, 2018 (Session #167)
(authored by BJ)

Exactly one of the following two words is phony: outfaces,
outrises. Which would you challenge? I chose incorrectly, and as a
result Ellen won both of the games containing those words, one of which
was a 113-point triple-triple! Thankfully I did have some more positive
moments, such as when I found the 9-letter bingo GELATINES on my first
turn of the game, playing through Iliana's two-letter opening play of EL
(see photo below). For their parts, Margaret and Iliana did well in the
high non-bingo department, with Margaret finding QUAKE for 55 and Iliana
with RESIZE for 74.

Other bingoing included: AEDILES, ENRAGES, DROWSIER, ANTHERS, TERGITES,
RETAPES, SATIRISE, SERMONS, CURIOSA, DOWNIER, TONELESS, DERRIES,
ARCHERS, INDOLES, GRISTERS, BELATED, FETIDEST#, RECORDER, UNIDEAL,
RENVOYS#, TURNOVER, SECEDING, COKIEST, GRUNTLE ("to put in good humor"
and also "to grunt"), EROTIZE, AIRPOST, and SPAWNERS. And OUTFACES is
the valid one of the two mentioned above.

Some interesting early-game boards (both CSW, hence the word OO# ("a
Scottish name for wool")):
