UVSC Session Report
November 20, 2017 (Session #157)
(authored by BJ)

We had a nice turnout of seven players this week, including first time
attendee Margaret B. who had learned of us from the recent Valley News
article about the Catamount Cup. She got up to speed quickly with the
formalities of club play and held her own very nicely, getting down
multiple bingos and winning two games! Devin, Amit, Iliana, Ellen,
Johanna and I were also there, and a total of 17 games were played. It
was great having an uptick in the number of players, and we're hoping
that our media exposure might help us find a few more like-minded
Scrabblers, too.

For anyone thinking of dropping by to check us out, now is a great time!
We're more than happy to gently introduce the slightly more formal
aspects of the game that you already know and love. You will find that
the competitive nature of club Scrabble challenges you in a way that
will quickly bring your game up a notch in many ways, including new
strategies for controlling the board, a method for vastly improving your
chances of playing big words, calculations that will give you a big
advantage in close endgames (yes, math involved here!), and of course,
learning many fun and interesting new words!

Here is the article that was in the Valley News:
Vermont Scrabble Tournament Has Its Own Lexicon

Many wonderful words got played tonight, including the following:
EQUATES, OUTSNORE, TROGONS, WARISON, TYRONES#, ORACIES, TORSADES,
REGALES, VIRILITY, ETAERIO#, OARIEST#, ENTROPY, STYMIES, TIMPANAS#,
REGALIAS#, ANTINODE, HAILIEST#, RADICELS, SINGLETS, PIVOTAL, GRATINS,
BASTION, WHIRLERS, SOLIDER, MISDATE, ORATING, NAIADES.

Note: the # symbol after a word indicates that it is valid only in the
World English Scrabble word list (CSW or "British" list). At our club,
players may choose to play games using either the North American word
list (TWL/OWL) or the World list.
